Perinatal Mood Disorders affect as many as 1 in 5 birthing people, and yet many are left feeling isolated with little to no resources or support. I’m dedicated to honoring and uplifting those seeking the balance between self, and family.
Meet Cayla
My walk in perinatal care began at the end of 2019, when a close friend of mine found herself pregnant with limited access to support and resources. What should have been a joyous and monumental moment in her life quickly became overwhelming, as she was drenched with fear, self doubt, and confusion of what was to come. Instinctively I jumped right in to act as a pillar of encouragement and guidance throughout her pregnancy, ensuring that I was equipped with all the knowledge needed to give her the experience she deserved. After this, I registered for some local trainings and attained certification as a Labor and Postpartum & Infant Care Doula at the turn of 2020. Since embarking on this journey for advocacy, I have been combining my passion, education, and platform to boost the experiences and voices of all birthing communities.
When I’m not committing my time to birth work, I can typically be found soaking in the sun with a book or preparing treats for my friends or amazing partner. On my own, I value opportunities for self expression whether it be in the kitchen discovering new dishes or in a more creative medium such as pottery painting. I live at home with my two ungrateful but lovely cats, and my best friend I am lucky enough to also consider my life partner.
My Philosophies of Care
It’s not my responsibility to tell you what’s right, wrong, or best for your family. It is however, my responsibility to ensure you have a firm understanding of your options, support available, and feel both comfortable and confident enough to pursue all of your goals whether as a parent or an individual. Our time together is utilized to uncover what lingering doubts or anxieties are limiting your opportunities and restricting your capabilities as a parent.
Once we have worked as a pair to get to the root cause of these hinderances, we will find pathways that connect those underlying concerns to your present day obstacles to break them apart one by one. After tackling these negative thoughts and influences, we can begin to lay the groundwork for a future that is secure, gentle, and moves forward fearlessly.
How I can help
Open Ears, Open Arms, & Open Dialogue
By listening to understand rather than to respond, I can get an adequate understanding on what is important to you, and where we should direct our focus during treatment sessions. Treating the symptom rather than the cause may provide the quickest relief, however this instant gratification is often short lived and leaves the injury to fester beneath the surface until it can no longer be ignored. Once familiar with your personal goals, history, and preferred approach to receiving care, we are truly able to work seamlessly together to bring the peace of mind that you deserve to life.
Build your confidence & sense of self
Addressing and unpacking past experiences and trauma stored within the body is crucial to moving on with our lives, but during the occurrences of these tough times we tend to lose parts of ourselves along the way. Rather than simply patching the holes in the glass, I work to refill your cup. It may not be exactly how it was before, but will give you the self worth needed to continue putting in the work and the core understanding that you are not inherently flawed, or undeserving of success and love.
Expand your potential as a parent
It’s hard to get the lay of the land when you’re not the best version of yourself. To assist in your parenting journey we identify and neutralize painful parts of the past, make meaningful change to redirect and embrace the present, and then use this fresh perspective to embark on your path of parenthood feeling weightless - yet whole. This approach gives people just like you an opportunity to face any anxieties or wounds resulting from childhood to stop generational trauma in it’s tracks.
